An Orange County physician, previously charged with 42 counts of mail fraud, was indicted on an additional count of conspiracy in connection with a $7-million insurance fraud he allegedly perpetrated by falsifying the records of healthy patients before ordering batteries of unnecessary medical tests. Ameer M. Dikshit, 55, of Laguna Niguel was arrested Wednesday and was being held in Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles until he posts a $475,000 bond. On Friday, a Los Angeles federal grand jury indicted one of Dikshit’s alleged co-conspirators, William O. Kupferschmidt, 48, of Rancho Palos Verdes on similar charges. Both are scheduled to be arraigned Monday. Both worked at a variety of Southern California clinics, including Tustin Multispecialty Medical Center, W Medical Group, Hospital Outpatients Medical Diagnostics and Spectrum Medical Group, all in Tustin, as well as Briston Medical Diagnostics Services in Santa Ana.
