Education Spending

I agree with your editorial that “California must figure out a way to stop shortchanging its precious children.” But adding just numbers to the present system is not the answer.

Teachers must be rewarded on performance, not tenure, and bad and mediocre teachers and administrators must be flushed from the system. Only when this current messed-up educational system is completely reorganized will our children in all cities be served.

So “who among us cannot recall at least one special teacher”? That’s the problem--there’s probably only one. And in all the years of education, that’s not enough.
