Brea : Police Investigating Second Fire at Store
A second fire at a market in less than two weeks caused extensive damage early Friday morning and required firefighters from four cities to put it out.
The Founder’s Liquor Market and Deli at 330 N. Brea Blvd. looked “pretty well wiped out,” said an employee of Shakey’s Pizza, which is in the same building.
The fire caused $150,000 in structural damage and $50,000 in damage to the store’s contents, according to Battalion Chief Joel Shennum of the Brea Fire Department.
Shennum noted that there was another blaze at the market April 17 that caused $45,000 in damage. The cause of that blaze was listed as electrical. For that reason, Shennum said, Friday’s fire is considered “suspicious.”
“They’re going to take a long time investigating this and do a very thorough job because we had another fire in the same occupancy,” Shennum said.
Shennum said the fire was reported at 12:49 a.m., and Brea firefighters arrived within six minutes. Units from Fullerton, Buena Park and La Habra helped put the fire out, and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
