The Glory That Was ‘Spartacus’
In “The Glory That Was Hollywood” (April 21), Pat H. Broeske writes that in 1960 “Spartacus” was the most expensive movie ever made. This is not true.
“Ben-Hur,” released in 1959, cost a well-publicized $15 million. The proper record held by “Spartacus” ($12 million) was that it was the most expensive picture ever made in the United States. “Ben-Hur” was made in Italy.
