Home Workplace Photos Are Misleading
Regarding your article “There’s No Workplace Like Home” (April 16): I was disappointed to see the photos that accompanied the article.
These photos portrayed an image that telecommuting is a way to spend time with your children or to get your laundry done. That, in fact, is not the case. Telecommuting is an alternative that allows someone to work at home instead of the central workplace.
When telecommuting, you are considered to be at work, regardless of whether you are physically at home. Companies offer telecommuting to employees so that they may increase productivity, reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
If I were a president of a company that was considering telecommuting for my employees and saw those photos, I would say this is not for my company.
