Saddleback Senior Takes 2nd in Bee
A Saddleback High School senior placed second Saturday in the annual California Citizen Bee contest, sponsored by the Los Angeles Times.
Tri Nguyen, who was one of 15 finalists to participate in the event at the Harry Chandler Auditorium at The Times, won $2,000 and the chance to travel to Washington in June for the national finals. The 15 finalists were all winners from regional competitions.
The contest emphasizes U.S. history, geography, current events, culture and government, according to Mary Ellen Huff of The Times’ education program, which organized the event.
The winner was Everett Chun, a senior from San Gabriel High School in San Gabriel, also last year’s state winner.
