Stable Wine Prices Expected Despite Freeze in Bordeaux

BORDEAUX, France — Plentiful stocks from previous years should keep the price of 1991 Bordeaux wines stable despite a cold wave that killed many of the buds on flowering grapevines, officials said Friday.
Lost in last weekend’s freeze were at least 400 million potential bottles of the prized wine from southwestern France, industry officials say.
The frost destroyed 50% to 100% of the grapevine buds in Bordeaux. Growers hope new buds will sprout, but doubt there will be enough to replace those lost.
