Assembly Votes Funds for Posting of Agendas

The Assembly voted Monday to once again pay local government boards for posting their agendas 72 hours before regular meetings.

Last summer’s budget compromise deleted that state payment, and courts have ruled that local governments cannot be required by the state to do something unless the state also pays the costs.

Last September, the Legislature had second thoughts and passed a bill to reinstate the requirement and payment. It was vetoed by then-Gov. George Deukmejian. Gov. Pete Wilson has said he would sign such a bill.

“The only truly good government is open government,” said Assemblyman Stan Statham (R-Oak Run), when the Assembly took up AB102 by Assemblyman Lloyd G. Connelly (D-Sacramento), which would restore payments and posting requirements.
