Coming to the mound from right field, Karliner, Ocean View’s ace reliever, rarely gets more than a half dozen warm-up pitches. “It’s not like we have to use stall tactics to get our guy loose in the pen,” Ocean View Coach Steve Barrett said. “We just go, ‘Come here,’ and give him the ball.” It’s a strategy that has worked well for the Seahawks, who have won six games of their seven-game Sunset League winning streak with Karliner relieving for Seth Bartels. Last week, Karliner, a hard-throwing left-hander, won games against Santa Ana and Westminster to raise his record to 7-2 and lower his earned-run average to 0.76. He also had a big week at the plate, going four for seven, to increase his batting average to .295. He hit a three-run home run to cap a five-run fifth inning against Santa Ana.

Tyler Cashman, who hit two home runs and had five RBIs in Los Alamitos’ 16-8 victory over then-No. 2 El Dorado.

Steve Little, who pitched a no-hitter, and Jim Moulton, who hit for the cycle, for Whittier Christian in a 19-0 victory over Capistrano Valley Christian.

Joe McCarthy, who had 25 kills for Edison in a four-game volleyball victory over Marina.

D.C. Olsen, who hit three home runs, including a grand slam, for Fullerton in a victory over Sunny Hills.
