HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Atwood, Beer Toss No-Hitter in Softball for CrescentaValley

Stacy Atwood and Tricia Beer combined on a no-hitter to lead the Crescenta Valley High softball team to an 18-0 victory over visiting Muir in a Pacific League game Thursday.

Atwood and Beer each recorded six strikeouts for Crescenta Valley (22-2, 7-1 in league play). Atwood (19-1), who pitched the first three innings, also had three hits. Teammates J. J. Cannon, Kristin Eagle and Jaime Klotthor each added two hits for the Falcons.

In other softball games:

Hart 20, Alhambra 6--Heather Medearis was three for five with a home run and six runs batted in to lead Hart to a Foothill League win.

Erin Hull and Krissy Carpenter each had three hits for host Hart (17-3, 8-0), which clinched a share of first place in league play with two games remaining.

Burroughs 5, San Gabriel 0--Joanna Carr was four for four and drove in three runs for Burroughs (10-7, 6-2) in a Foothill League game at San Gabriel.

Camarillo 1, Newbury Park 0 (10 innings)--Johnna Mike’s bloop single to shallow center field scored Jennifer England--who had led off the 10th inning with a triple--giving the Scorpions (19-4, 10-2) a Marmonte League victory over the Panthers (17-9, 8-5) at Newbury Park.

Sophomore right-hander Laura Richardson (10-3) threw a four-hitter, struck out 17 and walked one for Camarillo, which maintained sole possession of first place in league play with two games to play.

Simi Valley 1, Agoura 0--Sara Griffin’s triple scored Taina Tande in the third inning and Heather Santiago tossed a two-hitter for Simi Valley (18-4, 10-3) in a Marmonte League game.

Thousand Oaks 3, Royal 1--Right-hander Carrie Russell (13-9) allowed two singles, struck out nine and walked two in a Marmonte League game at Royal.

Moorpark 19, Carpinteria 4--Brenda Phipps was two for three to lead visiting Moorpark in a Tri-Valley League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

La Reina 4, St. Bonaventure 0--Jaye Brant and Erin Petrick each had two hits for La Reina (14-5, 7-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at St. Bonaventure.

Louisville 9, St. Genevieve 0--Stephanie Horner and her sister, Michele, each had two hits for Louisville in a San Fernando League game at home.

Sylmar 14, Canoga Park 0--Jamie Vo and Traci Hanna each had three hits for host Sylmar, which completed Valley Pac-8 Conference play without a loss.

Birmingham 16, Van Nuys 0--Crissy Cavallero hit two home runs to lead Birmingham in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at home.

Taft 5, Cleveland 4--Stephanie Fontaine and Keri Borzello each had two hits for host Taft (8-5, 4-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Village Christian 5, Montclair Prep 4--Marcie Chacon had two hits and Heather Larson doubled home a run to lead host Village Christian (11-4, 8-1) in an Alpha League game.

BASEBALL

Highland Hall 13, Westside Prep 1--Jakob Jensen struck out 10, allowed four hits and extended his hitting streak to 31 games as Highland Hall won its 37th consecutive Westside League game and fifth consecutive league title.

Jared Schwartz added two hits for Highland Hall (13-5, 5-0).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Cleveland 5, Kennedy 2--The Cavaliers wrapped up the North Valley League title, giving Cleveland its first league tennis title in 30 years.
