TENNIS ROUNDUP : Lendl Wins Two Matches

Top-seeded Ivan Lendl had a long day on the court Friday, beating two opponents to move into the semifinals of the BMW Open at Munich. Lendl started by completing a third-round match suspended by rain, beating Yugoslav Goran Prpic, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Then he defeated Todd Witsken, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina upset second-seeded Yugoslav Goran Ivanisevic, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, and Christian Bergstrom of Sweden defeated countryman Lars Jonsson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Top-seeded Monica Seles swept past Helena Sukova, 6-0, 6-1, and joined Steffi Graf in the semifinals of the Hamburg Open. Graf beat fifth-seeded Katerina Maleeva of Bulgaria, 6-3, 6-3.

Guy Forget of France beat Wally Masur, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, and Richard Fromberg of Australia beat Fabrice Santoro, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), at Nimes, France, as the countries split their opening matches in the Davis Cup quarterfinals. The world-group match was delayed because of the Persian Gulf War. The winner plays Yugoslavia in the semifinals.

Top-seeded Richey Reneberg defeated No. 7 MaliVai Washington, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the semifinals of the USTA Men’s Clay Courts of Tampa, Fla.

Reneberg will meet Pablo Arraya of Peru, who rallied to beat Kelly Evernden of New Zealand, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-1.
