BOOK SOUP: Tough luck for all those news organizations (like the New York Times) who signed agreements with Birch Lane Press promising they would honor a publication date embargo on the new Michael Jackson biography (in return for Birch Lane shipping them an early copy). Birch Lane said the book wouldn’t be available until Monday--but numerous copies of the book turned up at B. Dalton and other L.A. area stores last week. Birch Lane staffers blame the snafu on the “unpredictable nature” of book distribution, insisting that East Coast stores still don’t have any copies.
