In another Empire League game:
Esperanza 10, Los Alamitos 0--Keith McDonald had three hits and David Newhan had two RBIs for visiting Esperanza (22-2, 12-2).
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 16, Liberty Christian 12 (nine innings)--St. Margaret’s (10-1, 6-1) scored five runs in the top of the ninth and went on to clinch the league title. Geoff Hanzlik had three singles and seven RBIs for St. Margaret’s.
In the Century League:
El Modena 7, Villa Park 6--Chad Henderson scored three runs and Jason Wakefield had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple, for El Modena (16-6, 12-2).
Canyon 10, Orange 1--Jeff Brunswig had three hits--a single, double and triple--and four RBIs for visiting Canyon (14-9-1, 8-6). Matt Kastelic had four hits, including a home run, and scored three runs.
In the Olympic League:
Valley Christian 3, Orange Lutheran 1--Kevin Dykstra pitched a two-hitter for host Valley Christian (17-1, 12-1).
Capistrano Valley Christian 5, Ontario Christian 4--Paul Connon struck out 12 and walked one intentionally as host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-14, 1-12) won its first Olympic League game.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 6, Laguna Beach 2--Matt Maffei hit a three-run home run in the first and Jason Pierson had three hits and scored a run for Laguna Hills (14-11, 10-4).
Estancia 18, Costa Mesa 2--Colby French had three hits, including a three-run home run, and five RBIs; Chris Watson had three hits and three RBIs, and Paul McDaniels had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for host Estancia (15-7, 10-4).
Trabuco Hills 5, Century 1--Steve Height (4-3) allowed 10 hits and struck out four for visiting Trabuco Hills (11-10, 8-6).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 4, La Habra 3 (eight innings)--Brent Coon walked, stole second and third, then scored on Rusty Volkert’s wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning for Troy (15-7, 9-5), which cliched second place in league.
Sunny Hills 9, Buena Park 5--Tony Martinez had three hits, including a home run and a double, and four RBIs for visiting Sunny Hills (18-6, 13-1).
In the Sea View League:
Saddleback 4, University 1--Robert Reyes (2-2) allowed only six hits and struck out six as Saddleback (12-10-1, 7-6-1) remained in second place in league.
Woodbridge 10, Tustin 4--Ryan Lemmon (1-1) pitched a complete game and went three for three with two runs scored and three RBIs for host Woodbridge (5-13, 4-10). Justin Drizos hit a fifth-inning grand slam for Woodbridge.
Newport Harbor 6, Corona del Mar 5 (eight innings)--Brandon Coluccio hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth to drive in Chris Bowen for host Newport Harbor (10-12, 8-6).
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 6, Dana Hills 4--Travis Burgus (7-2) allowed only three hits, struck out six and hit a home run as Capistrano Valley (14-9, 7-6-1) kept its hopes alive for third place in league.
El Toro 4, San Clemente 3 (eight innings)--Sal Schachter hit a single down the third base line to drive in Brian Haas in the bottom of the eighth for El Toro.
Mission Viejo 4, Irvine 3--Mike Boucher hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning and Tim Snowden hit a home run in the third to give Mission Viejo (10-13, 5-9) a 4-2 lead.
In the Sunset League:
Ocean View 6, Edison 1--Ocean View won its 12th consecutive game and moved into a first-place tie with Fountain Valley.
Edison’s Matt Harrell hit a home run in the first inning but that was all the Chargers could manage off Seth Bartels (5-1), who gave up only two more hits in five innings. Reliever Randy Karliner, who struck out five of the six batters he faced, earned his fifth save for Ocean View (15-7, 9-2 in league).
Rich Crowe hit his eighth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fifth for Ocean View.
Huntington Beach 10, Marina 7 (eight innings)--Byron Smith hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth for the Oilers (12-12-1, 5-6). Nick Valencia hit a grand slam to cap a five-run seventh for Marina, but Huntington Beach tied the score with five runs in the bottom of the inning as Brian Feathers hit a grand slam.
Fountain Valley 13, Westminster 2--Derek Fahs (10-3) allowed two hits and struck out nine in six innings and Brian Ponchak had a home run, double and two RBIs for Fountain Valley (21-5, 9-2).
