Chatsworth High second baseman Nestor Martinez said Tuesday that he has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next season at Cal State Northridge.

Martinez, a returning All-City Section 4-A Division selection who helped lead the Chancellors to the 4-A title last spring, is batting .350 with two home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Martinez (5-foot-9, 175 pounds) said he also attracted the interest of USC, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Los Angeles but that Northridge was always the favorite.

“In the back of my mind I knew all along that I wanted to go to CSUN,” he said. “Especially after they went to (NCAA) Division I.”

Martinez, who took the Scholastic Aptitude Test for the first time Saturday, batted .423 with 12 doubles and 23 RBIs as a junior.
