Big West Championships Get Under Way
IRVINE — The Fresno State men’s team will attempt to win its ninth consecutive conference championship and the Nevada Las Vegas women will shoot for their third consecutive title at the Big West Track and Field Championships today and Saturday at the UC Irvine Track Stadium.
Competition begins with the women’s 10,000-meter finals today at 9 a.m. Trials and finals in several field events begin at 12:30 p.m., the men’s steeplechase is scheduled for 3:30 and trials for running events begin at 3:50. Five men’s decathlon events and four women’s heptathlon events will be held today beginning at 2 p.m.
Field event trials and finals continue Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and finals in running events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 UC Irvine is expected to challenge Fresno State for the men’s title and UNLV for the women’s championship.
