WEEKEND TV : Songs of Past, for the Future

Pop music stars sing for the Kurds, crocodiles sing for their supper and “Judy, Frank and Dean” sing from days gone by.

“The Simple Truth: A Concert for Kurdish Refugees” can be seen tape-delayed Sunday at 7 p.m. on MTV. The four-hour international benefit for those displaced by the failed rebellion against the forces of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein includes performances by Sting, Peter Gabriel, Sinead O’Connor, Whitney Houston, Paul Simon, New Kids on the Block, Gloria Estefan and many others.

The Discovery Channel begins its weeklong series on things that slither in the exotic world of reptiles, lizards and amphibians Sunday at 5 p.m. The first installment, “Ganges Gharial,” examines a rare breed of crocodile from Northern India, while “Crocodiles--The Deadly Survivors,” airing Sunday at 9 p.m., examines the farming of crocodiles in Australia for their valuable meat and skins.

Sunday at 9 p.m., The Disney Channel presents “Judy, Frank and Dean: Once in a Lifetime,” a 1962 concert featuring Garland, Sinatra and Martin.

And finally, Sunday at 4 p.m. on Channel 2, Willie Brown, the Speaker of the California Assembly, discusses such pressing state issues as new taxes, the budget deficit and education on “Newsmakers.”
