PLACENTIA : School Board Votes to Oppose Measure J
The Placentia Unified School District Board has voted unanimously to oppose Measure J, the half-cent sales tax increase for new jail construction that voters will decide on Tuesday.
On Thursday, board members joined the Yorba Linda City Council in opposing the ballot measure, fearing its passage would lead to construction of a massive county jail in nearby Gypsum Canyon.
Board President Judy Miner said the tax increase would also be excessive in the face of a proposed 1 1/4-cent sales tax hike in Gov. Pete Wilson’s state budget.
“This on top of it would make quite a tax hike,” she said. “It really makes it compete with education funding.”
