Stanford’s Adam Keefe, a 6-foot-9 center-forward from Woodbridge High School, announced Friday that he will stay in school for his final year of eligibility rather than make himself available for the NBA draft.

Keefe, projected as a middle to lower first-round draft pick, averaged 21.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game last season while leading the Cardinal to a 20-13 record and the NIT championship. He was runner-up in Pacific 10 player of the year balloting.

Keefe’s girlfriend attends Stanford, and the Pan American Games also might have been a factor in his decision. He is among 17 players still in the running for a spot on the U.S. team in the amateur competition. Had he elected to make himself eligible for the draft, he would no longer have been in consideration for the Pan-Am team.
