LOCAL COLOR: L.A. faves Mary’s Danish have signed with Morgan Creek Records. The band’s upcoming album, tentatively titled “Circa,” will feature such new songs as “Yello Creep Around,” “Nevada” and “Julie’s Blanket.” . . . Rhythm Safari Records’ “LAtino LAtino: Music From the Streets of L.A.,” has become a local radio fave, earning airplay on KLON-FM, KFOX-FM, KCRW-FM and KXLU-FM, especially on Eddie Lopez’s “Alma del Barrio” program. . . . Taking time between their own projects, John Hiatt and Ry Cooder are here, working with Nick Lowe on his next album. . . . L.A. mainstay Jimmy Wood, who’s been shopping for a new label deal, found one way to get jaded A&R; execs to give his demo tape a listen--he recruited Bruce Hornsby to play piano on one of his songs, with TV celeb-songstress Katey Sagal pitching in on vocals. . . . And Walt Disney Records is releasing “For Our Children,” a benefit album whose proceeds are earmarked for research at the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Due out May 28, the record features a host of pop stars, many performing newly recorded nursery rhymes. The roster includes “This Old Man” by Bob Dylan, “Itsy Bitsy Spider” by Little Richard, “Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips” by Bruce Springsteen, “Cushie Butterfield” by Sting and “Mary Had a Little Lamb” by Paul McCartney, as well as Barbra Streisand (“A Child Is Born”), Bette Midler (“Blueberry Pie”), Jackson Browne and Jennifer Warnes (“Golden Slumbers”) and Stephen Bishop (“The Ballad of Davey Crockett”).
