FOUR-STAR POWER
In your article about Gen. Powell and in similar effusive tributes to Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, no consideration is given to the fundamental nature of their profession. These men have spent all of their adult lives studying, teaching and practicing the trade of killing people. That they kill only under the orders of an elected leader does not change the reality of what they do.
The fact that these generals are showered with infinitely more praise and fame than the best of our teachers, healers, scientists or artists is a sad comment on the American press and the society it reflects.
