Pending a review by the American League, the Indians are postponing disciplinary action against outfielder Albert Belle, who threw a ball into the left-field stands Saturday and struck a fan who had taunted him about his alcohol problems.

Belle, who apologized in a statement released by the club Saturday, declined comment Sunday. However, Hank Peters, the Indians’ president, issued an apology.

Jeff Pillar, 33, of Cleveland, was struck in the chest by the ball and suffered a minor welt. Belle, who spent 10 weeks last summer undergoing treatment of alcohol-related problems, was applauded each time he came to bat Sunday.
