Federal Women’s Health Study
It is most commendable that the government is proposing a major research project to study the health problems of aging women. Is this another instance where the interests of a minority are being ignored? I refer to the male of the species. It is a fact that in all Western nations women live from seven to 10 years longer than men and yet there is to be a $500-million study to achieve an increase in longevity of the gender that already outlives the other.
It is fine for Dr. Healy to concede that women live longer than men, but that “their quality of life is not what it could be.” At that time of life the quality of life for most men is even worse--they are dead!
