New U.S. Immigrants
Your special report on the “New Immigrant Experience” and the “Los Angeles County: The Census Story” (Metro, May 6) are both timely and a great service to the growing ethnically diverse Los Angeles region. We at the Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF) would like to commend you for your focus on the richness of our multicultural heritage. It is appropriate that we celebrate our diversity since Southern California has become the “new Ellis Island” of America.
Since this is the 200th anniversary of the Bill of Rights, the Constitutional Rights Foundation is coordinating a citywide celebration, including a special program aimed at meeting the needs of our area’s growing Asian and Latino immigrant population. Our program, Towards a New Citizenry, is designed to increase immigrant awareness about the Bill of Rights and its underlying contemporary values and translate that awareness into practical knowledge and skills necessary for participatory citizenry.
We invite the entire community to celebrate with us!
