Police have found the car believed to have been used in the shooting of an armored van driver here last week, but they are still seeking a third suspect wanted in connection with the attack.

Meanwhile, the victim of the attack, 24-year-old John G. Statkus of Fullerton, remained in critical condition Sunday night in the intensive care unit of the UCI Medical Center in Orange. He was shot four times Thursday morning after restocking an automated teller machine with cash at a 7-Eleven store at Chapman Avenue and Magnolia Street.

Garden Grove Police Lt. Chuck Gibbs said Inglewood police found the 1986 Volkswagen GTI abandoned in their city around 11 p.m. Saturday. Investigators are awaiting the results of forensic tests conducted on the car for possible evidence.

The three men suspected in the failed robbery and shooting went to the scene of the crime in the Volkswagen, police say. A witness took down the license plate as the car sped away after the shooting, helping lead police to two of the men now in custody.

The two men already arrested in connection with the attack are Gilbert Orlandes Green, 22, and Thomas Anthony Chaney, 28, both of Ontario. Chaney was fired from Wells Fargo Armored Car Services, Statkus’ employer, earlier this month.

The third suspect, Mark Anthony Blount, 25, of Pomona, remains at large. Gibbs said Blount, last seen driving the Volkswagen, is known to frequent parts of Inglewood, Claremont and Ontario and that police are focusing their search in those cities.
