Track, Field Finals Set in Cerritos
CERRITOS — About 2,000 young athletes will participate in the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF) Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Gahr High School, 11111 Artesia Blvd. The meet will begin with a parade at 9:30 a.m.
Youngsters will compete in eight age divisions and 72 separate events. Medals and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each division, and each participant will receive a T-shirt.
Each entrant participated in a city parks and recreation program and a regional qualifier to advance to the championships. It is estimated that more than 20,000 youngsters competed in the parks and recreation program throughout Southern California.
The event has been sponsored by Nike for five years. SCMAF has conducted the Track and Field Championships for the past 20 years. In addition, the nonprofit federation provides sports programs, competition and services for member agencies, recreation professionals and youth and adults throughout Southern California.
