Dancers Will Reconstruct Brahms Work
Ballet Pacifica will offer a free demonstration of the reconstruction of Charles Weidman’s “Brahms Waltzes, Opus 39” on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive in Irvine, where Ballet Pacifica will dance the work on May 31 and June 1.
Weidman choreographed “Brahms Waltzes” in 1967, and it was recorded in Labanotation, a type of movement shorthand used to create a written record of a dance work. The event will show how dancers interpret such a movement score and how a representative of the Dance Notation Bureau, which holds the license for Labanotated scores, oversees the reconstruction.
