GARDEN GROVE : Merchants to Discuss Anti-Crime Effort

Businesses on Garden Grove Boulevard between Brookhurst Street and Beach Boulevard will start a crime-prevention program next month that police say is modeled after Neighborhood Watch programs.

More than 200 businesses in the area have been invited to join the Garden Grove Boulevard Business Network, a program that will encourage businesses to work together to fight crime.

Merchants, many of whom have asked police for increased patrols along the boulevard, will be urged to get to know their neighbors, know each others’ business hours and phone numbers, and to keep an eye out for unfamiliar cars and people in the area.

“It’s a way of helping the businesses to help themselves,” said Kristy Roland, community service officer. “If a person sees that the back door of the business next door is wide open and they know that their neighbor isn’t supposed to be there, they will know to call the police.”

The program will be explained at a special meeting at 7 p.m. on June 10 at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
