H. Leffler St. Claire; Retired Optometrist

H. Leffler (Leff) St. Claire, who practiced optometry in Glendale for nearly 50 years, has died at a Glendale hospital. He was 91.

A longtime Glendale resident, St. Claire died Monday of heart failure, said his daughter, Jo Ann St. Claire of Westlake Village.

Born in Phoenix, St. Claire graduated from the Los Angeles College of Optometry in the early 1920s.

He worked for an optical supply company before he began practicing in Glendale in the early 1930s. St. Claire maintained his practice in Glendale until he retired at the age of 80.

St. Claire was a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star in Glendale and member of the Masonic Lodge in Glendale, the Al Malaikah Temple in Los Angeles, the California Optometric Assn. and the American Optometric Assn.

In addition to his daughter, St. Claire is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alma P. St. Claire; brother Darrell St. Claire of Washington, and two grandchildren.

At his request, no services are planned.

Private burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Glendale. Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements.

Donations can be made in St. Claire’s name to the Kidney Foundation of Southern California.
