Hockey Appetite Goes Unfulfilled
It has been three years since hockey “arrived” in Los Angeles, and yet, it appears it still hasn’t arrived at the Los Angeles Times. Last week, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the North Stars to win the Stanley Cup, but all we read about it in The Times was a measly three half-page columns and no picture of Mario Lemieux hoisting the Cup. For that matter, no pictures, period.
Steve Springer spent many a column this past season criticizing the National Hockey League. However, if you are a hockey fan living in Southern California, you know that the biggest problem in hockey today isn’t anything the NHL is or isn’t doing. Rather, the biggest problem with hockey out here is the lack of coverage by the West’s largest newspaper.
