DISCHING THE DIRT
While I do not personally like Charles Olson’s poetry and have not been much interested in Black Mountain College, I am not sure I have ever read as offensive a review as Thomas Disch’s review of “Charles Olson” by Tom Clark (April 28).
A hit-and-run attack on Olson personally, it completely fails to review or even give me a sense of the biography. What remarkable pomposity and meanness!
I am amazed that the L.A. Times Book Review, never one of the nation’s leaders in the best of times, now doesn’t even seem to know what a book review is or what it isn’t.
