Fact: Men and children create 90% of a family’s housework and leave it to women to clean up. This comes from Don Aslett, the self-proclaimed Will Rogers of restrooms, America’s unofficial Mr. Clean. Aslett will hold forth for several seminars on housecleaning as part of the Long Beach Home Improvement Show on June 7 to 9.

Along with Aslett, purveyors of products ranging from house plants to log cabins will give advice on how to improve the space you live in. Seminars on custom kitchens, pools and spas, sun rooms and decking, windows and doors, cooking and appliances, siding and roofing--even lessons on financing to help you afford your new and improved digs--happen throughout next weekend.

Aslett will share his secrets on how to motivate men who would rather cultivate agricultural products in the shower than clean it. “It’s not chauvinism,” Aslett said. “It’s ignorance. They think they’re doing half the work.”

Typically, men say they clean the outside of the house and leave the inside to women. That translates to 26 hours a week for women, compared to 56 minutes a week for men, according to a study Aslett conducted.

On Saturday and next Sunday, he will tell his secrets for cutting the total housework time in half, along with tips from his book “How Do I Clean the Moosehead?” (“Never vacuum it!” Aslett warns. “Use a little Windex on the eyes, some baby oil on the horns.”)

Aslett, 55, has written several other books, including the best-selling “Is There Life After Housework?” “Clutter’s Last Stand” and “Not for Pack Rats Only.”
