3 Girls Rescue Boy, 9, From Swimming Pool
Three girls rescued a 9-year-old boy from the bottom of a Canyon Country swimming pool Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Becky Klajic, 13, and Stacy Horman, 12, were swimming at an apartment complex on the 28900 block of Prairie Street in Canyon Country when they saw David Palomares near the bottom of the pool, Sgt. Carl Deeley said.
Initially the girls thought that David was playing but moments later realized he was in trouble. Both dived under the water and together pulled him to the surface, Deeley said.
“These girls saw something was wrong and they immediately took action instead of calling for help,” Deeley said. “That’s pretty outstanding.”
After the two pulled David to the surface, Becky’s younger sister, Robin Klajic, 11, helped pull him onto the pool deck. The two sisters are the daughters of Santa Clarita City Councilwoman Jill Klajic.
David was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Hospital officials would not comment Saturday night on the boy’s condition.
