U.S. Volleyball Team Faces Italy Tonight
IRVINE — The U.S. national volleyball team will meet defending World League champion Italy at 7:30 tonight at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.
The match is the second meeting between the teams. Italy defeated the United States in three games Friday night in San Diego.
The U.S. team (2-1) is led by former Stanford and Laguna Beach High star Scott Fortune. Fortune, the only player left from the 1988 Olympic team, leads the league in digs per game (4.11), and Costa Mesa’s Mark Arnold is third in blocks (1.22).
Also, outside hitter Allen Allen is expected to return after missing the previous series against Japan due to a leg injury.
