Spending Cuts in Education
What is your problem? There you go again, assuring us that your recent poll says “people are willing to fork over more tax money for education” (editorial, “Cutting Like Mad,” May 29). Why are you constantly exhorting all levels of government to raise taxes? If we doubled our education budget, non-critical, stupid new expenditures would proliferate and they’d be back in a year whining for more.
The education mess goes to the heart of the current problem: overpopulation among non-taxpayers. What percentage of California’s urban school district enrollment has non-taxpaying parents? (Either property or income taxes.)
I agree that every child deserves an education. I don’t agree that every non-working parent deserves to have unlimited kids, especially when I’m being asked to cough up and they’re not.
