Gunman Shoots Jeweler, Eludes Police in Chase
A gunman escaped capture Sunday after shooting a jeweler in a thwarted robbery attempt in one of Pasadena’s busiest shopping districts, then leading police on a freeway chase to downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.
The gunman fired on the owner, striking him once in the right shoulder, said Pasadena Police Sgt. Linsen Mayer. The owner, whose identity was not immediately released, was in good condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
The gunman fled the shooting scene in the 400 block of East Colorado Boulevard empty-handed and was chased down the Pasadena Freeway by Pasadena officers. The gunman parked his car in front of the World Trade Center at 4th and Flower streets downtown, and disappeared, Mayer said.
