BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Valenzuela’s Future to Be Discussed
Angel executives will meet today to discuss their plans for Fernando Valenzuela, who made his last scheduled minor league start Saturday at Little Rock, Ark.
Valenzuela’s contract stipulated that he would make three minor league starts, so additional starts would have to be mutually agreed upon.
“The decision is being made by the parties who negotiated it in the first place,” Angel Manager Doug Rader said.
The Angels have won seven consecutive series, five after losing the opener. They were 62 for 221 (.281) on the road trip. . . . The last time the Angels were seven games over .500 was at the end of the 1989 season. . . . Third baseman Gary Gaetti sat out Sunday, only the second game he has missed this season. He leads the team in games played, with 47. . . . Luis Polonia’s third-inning infield hit increased his batting average with runners in scoring position and two out to .500 (13 for 26).
