Israeli Airlift of Ethiopian Jews
Amazing contrasts appeared in The Times recently. The African-American magazine at UCLA published a piece referring to disputes with a Jewish student newspaper that said: “Silly rabbits, they think I don’t like them because they’re Jewish. . . . That’s ridiculous. I don’t like the majority of them because they’re typical cave-dwelling white, Zionist (expletive)” (Metro, May 24).
At the same time, the Zionist state of Israel was saving the lives of 14,000 Africans. What other country in the world would pay $35 million to Ethiopia to buy the freedom of 14,000 uneducated, untrained Africans, many of whom are sick and do not even know what a light switch or a toilet is?
Some of the people at UCLA ought to get their act together and find out what Zionism is before equating it with racism. I think that they have swallowed a line of propaganda and are guilty of the very thing that they find so abhorrent.
