THOUSAND OAKS : Traffic to Be Halted for Sobriety Checks
Two sobriety checkpoints will be set up in Thousand Oaks next week in an effort to increase public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, authorities announced Monday.
“It’s an education-type program,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy John Hoelker said.
The checkpoints will be run simultaneously on June 11 from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Locations of the checkpoints were not disclosed.
Signs will alert motorists to the checkpoints, and they are free to drive around them, Hoelker said.
Motorists who go through the checkpoints will be detained only a few minutes while an officer observes them and explains the purpose of the stop, Hoelker said. Drivers who appear to be intoxicated will be tested.
