Swiss May Lower Speed Limits to Curb Smog
Associated Press
BERN, Switzerland — Speed limits on parts of the Swiss expressway may be reduced during July and August, the peak of the tourist season, to reduce summer smog.
Eight cantons, or states, asked federal authorities to take action against the smog. Switzerland bears the brunt of the north-south traffic through much of Europe during vacations. Official speed limits on expressways are 74 m.p.h. for cars and 50 m.p.h. for trucks.
