Pacific to Give Concert Benefiting the Disabled
IRVINE — The Pacific Symphony will give a benefit concert Sunday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. Proceeds are to be divided evenly between the orchestra and the Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California, a 41-year-old facility in Orange that treats the disabled.
The concert is being underwritten by Mary Moore Young of Fullerton, a longtime supporter of both the orchestra and the institute. The program will include Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” (the characters’ voices will be supplied by Jeff Bergman, who provides voices for a number of cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd) and music by Shostakovich and Leonard Bernstein, conducted by Carl St. Clair, the orchestra’s music director. Singer and guitarist Bob Schneider and a chorus of children from local schools also will participate.
Tickets ($12 and $14 for adults; $6 and $8 for children) go sale on July 1. Information: (714) 740-2000.
