OXNARD : Man Arrested in Counterfeit Case
A 26-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of trying to spend a counterfeit $20 bill, police said.
Mario Ispache of Oxnard was arrested after a clerk at Queen’s Liquors at 733 S. Oxnard Blvd. noticed that a bill given to him by Ispache “didn’t feel right,” Oxnard Police Sgt. John Crombach said.
The clerk said the bill also looked unusual, Crombach said. The clerk detained Ispache and called police, who determined that the bill was counterfeit.
Ispache was carrying several counterfeit bills and had tried to use them at a nearby restaurant, police said.
Police said they had picked up several counterfeit bills in the area in the past week. They said their information shows that the bills are coming from outside the country.
