Holocaust Survivor Sentenced in Threats
A Jewish Holocaust survivor was ordered Wednesday to work 1,000 hours on behalf of a human rights organization for making terrorist threats against an Arab-American organization during the Persian Gulf War.
Beverly Hills construction engineer Kurt Haber, 60, pleaded no contest last month to two felony counts stemming from telephone bomb threats made to the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Hollywood.
Superior Court Judge Lance Ito ordered Haber to do 1,000 hours of community service work with Amnesty International and placed him on five years formal probation. Authorities say Haber called the American-Arab group twice on Jan. 17, the night Iraqi missiles first struck Tel Aviv.
Haber was arrested after the group reported the threat and police traced the calls to his home.
