Busby, Cervantes Are Honored

Pitchers Mike Busby of Banning High and Armando Cervantes of Narbonne have been named L.A. City Section players of the year in their respective divisions by the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles-First Interstate Bank board of sportswriters.

Busby, the 4-A Division Player of the Year, led Banning to the City final at Dodger Stadium, where the Pilots lost to San Fernando, 3-2.

Other area players named to the All-City 4-A team were Banning pitcher Mark Chavez, San Pedro outfielder Pat Barnard and Carson pitcher-first baseman Marco Martinez.

Cervantes, the 3-A Division Player of the Year, led Narbonne to the 3-A title and pitched a five-hitter in the Gauchos’ 5-1 victory over Franklin in the final at Dodger Stadium.

Two other Narbonne players were named to the All-City 3-A team--junior pitcher Craig Valenzuela and third baseman Paco Cervantes, Armando’s brother.
