Culver City : Theater Users Sought
The Redevelopment Agency Monday night directed its staff to seek interested users or buyers for the Culver Theater, which will probably be renovated for film screenings or live performances.
The estimated cost of the renovation ranges from $1.7 million to $3.8 million, depending on which option the agency chooses. Asbestos removal will cost another $1.7 million.
The 1,000-seat theater has been designated by the City Council as a landmark structure. The theater operated for a decade as a three-screen movie house until it closed in January, 1989. The agency acquired the building in 1985 and attempted to sell it to Filmcorp Group Inc., but negotiations ended in 1987 when the two sides could not reach an agreement.
