* Cal Poly Pomona conferred degrees on 3,287 graduates at its 52nd commencement ceremonies Saturday. Actor Raymond Burr delivered the keynote address. From his prepared address:

Today you leave this institution . . . . It will miss all of you and what you have brought here. But while Cal Poly will be the worse for your departure, it will also be the better for having served its function in preparing you as best it can to touch the family of man.”

UCLA School of Medicine & Science

* The UCLA School of Medicine & Science conferred 176 medical degrees on graduates Friday. Dr. Joel Yager (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, 1965), professor of psychiatry and bio-behavioral sciences at the school, delivered the keynote address.

Loyola Law School

* Loyola Law School conferred juris doctorate degrees on 387 graduates at its 70th commencement Sunday. U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Stephen S. Trott (Harvard Law School, 1965) delivered the keynote address.

Occidental College

* Occidental College held its 104th commencement Sunday. Degrees were conferred on 420 graduates. New York Times columnist Edward B. Fiske (Wesleyan University, 1959) delivered the keynote address. An honorary degree was awarded to Fiske.

California School of Professional Psychology

* California School of Professional Psychology conferred 65 doctor degrees at its 21st commencement Friday. Connell F. Persico (Stanford, 1974), vice president of institutional advancement at the school, delivered the keynote address.

Looking Ahead

* Caltech will hold its 100th commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. Friday on campus. President Bush will deliver the commencement address. Admission by ticket only. For information, call (818) 356-3834. Seating is limited.

* UCLA will hold its 72nd commencement ceremonies on campus over a three-day period. Here are some of the commencements that feature prominent keynote speakers (note that some ceremonies are closed to the public): James D. Hodgson, former U.S. Secretary of Labor and former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, at the Management School, 2 p.m. Friday, Royce Hall (closed); County Supervisor Gloria Molina and architect Frank O. Gehry at the School of Architecture, 3 p.m. Saturday, Perloff Quad; choreographer Bella Lewitzky at the Art and Theater School, 9 a.m. Saturday, Royce Hall (closed); Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) at the School of Social Welfare, 5 p.m. Sunday (open); Jared Diamond, professor of physiology and science writer, at the School of Life Sciences, 10 a.m. Saturday, Los Angeles Tennis Center (closed). Author Carl Sagan will receive the UCLA Medal at the Physical Sciences ceremony, 6 p.m. Sunday, LATC (closed). Hodgson will also receive the medal at the Management School ceremony.

* Cal State Los Angeles will hold its 44th commencement ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. Saturday on the athletic field. Acting CSU Chancellor Ellis E. McCune will deliver the keynote address.

* Cal State San Bernardino will hold its 25th commencement at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on campus. Lois Carson, former executive director of the Riverside County Department of Community Action, will deliver the keynote address.

* UC Riverside will hold its commencement at two ceremonies Saturday: the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at 8:30 a.m. and the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, School of Education, and the Graduate School of Management at 6 p.m. Both ceremonies will feature Riverside County Superior Court Judge Charles Field as the keynote speaker.
