Police on Monday awaited coroner’s findings to identify a man found shot to death in the trunk of a car abandoned in a southwest Los Angeles neighborhood.

A woman who lives in the 1300 block of West 68th Street called police Sunday afternoon to report “a foul odor” coming from the car, said Los Angeles Police Detective Roosevelt Joseph.

“Officers pried open the trunk and found the body,” Joseph said, adding that the man appeared to have been dead for 10 to 20 days. He had been shot in the upper body. “We found a wallet with a driver’s license in it, but we are waiting for positive identification.” The man was described as Latino, about 45 years old, 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing dark pants and a dark shirt.
