Sierra Madre : Trash Rate Hike Sought

The average homeowner’s trash-pickup bill would go up by 88 cents a month under a proposed rate increase requested by Western Waste Industries.

The City Council took no action on the request Tuesday, but several council members indicated they may vote against the increase. The average bill would increase from $10.25 to $11.13.

“This needs to be justified a little bit better,” Mayor Pro Tem Gary B. Adams said. In a May 29 letter, the company asked the council to adopt the fee changes starting July 1, 1991. It cited growing landfill costs and a rise in the consumer price index to justify the request.
