Boy, 8, Killed by Motorcycle
LOS ALAMITOS — An 8-year-old Buena Park boy died after being struck by a motorcycle as he ran across a street Monday night, police said.
Motorcyclist John Chadwell, 19, of Los Alamitos tried to swerve away from Jason Mascarella, who witnesses said was having a water fight with other children when he ran out onto the street.
The child was dragged about 40 feet beneath the motorcycle. He was taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center and pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m., police said.
Jason was staying with his grandmother while his parents were on vacation, said Los Alamitos Police Cpl. Rod McKenzie.
Witnesses said Chadwell was not speeding at the time of the accident, McKenzie said. “At this point, we don’t see any violation on the part of the motorcyclist,” he said. Chadwell was not cited.
