CURTAINS: At South Coast Repertory, the show doesn’t have to go on after all. Tuesday night’s performance of “The Happy End” was canceled and 450 ticket holders were turned away when the theater had no replacement for an injured actor. . . . Director Martin Benson said it was only the third such cancellation in the troupe’s 27-year history, but stand-ins have rarely been used. “It is very difficult to get understudies of sufficient ability to cover a role,” he said. “ . . . They would have to drive down from L.A. every night, just to stand around.” The injured actor was back Wednesday.
