Fourteen people have been executed in the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin as authorities try to stop wars between gangs, a local newspaper said. The executions took place Sunday, immediately after a mass sentencing rally attended by more than 4,000 people, said the Heilongjiang Daily, received Wednesday in Beijing.

The paper said gang members had fought, gambled, stolen and been involved in prostitution.
